520 Meeting Highlights

This week, we discussed more ways in which we can promote Open Door Outreach Network & reach more people. Let us know of any opportunites/ideas you may have to promote our organization. We have aired live radio spots, television spots & printed business cards to draw more people to our sites & this meeting. We are still in the process of designing our Team ODO t-shirts, & we are connecting with other organizations that are like-minded (such as OUR HOUSE, Family Promise & SOAR Network).
We are adding more information to our facebook page & website, continually. We already have new business cards to distribute! Come to the meetings to get yours, so that you can help us help others! Pass them out to friends, family & business associates to get the word out that we meet regularly, to join our community together in the hopes of helping more people in need in the Central Arkansas area.
Several volunteer opportunities and announcements are posted on our facebook page, as well as on the Little Rock Volunteers site. Please check those out & "share" our opportunities on facebook with others and tell your friends, family & business associates about the Little Rock Volunteers/Open Door Outreach group on the meetup site.
For the month of August, our main focus events are: the "Rummage Sale " fundraiser for SOAR Network, our 2nd Saturdays Dinner for Women & Children First (we cook at Dee Dee's house, not the shelter, so all are welcome!), Family Promise's "Monster Ball Kickball Tournament", & The Ark Art Center's "Family Festival". We will be promoting Open Door Outreach Network on KABF 88.3FM! It will air Saturday, June 8th, between 6P & 7P. If you miss it, you can listen to the promo spot broadcast here, in its entirety (about 10 minutes in length). Just click on the green button to listen!

Simply Red 2013 "A Night of Stars"
Argenta Community Theater, North Little Rock
What fun we had setting up for this fundraiser event for Arkansas Aids Foundation! We helped blow up balloons & set tables to decorate the Argenta Community Theater. We had a great group of ODO'ers and Little Rock Volunteers - it was awesome meeting new people! This will be another annual event to which I will look forward, if the opportunity becomes available again!!

Randall Eller & Kc "A Night of Magic"
Second Baptist Church, Little Rock
This fundraiser for Family Promise was a marvelous show for all ages! Open Door Outreach was proud to present & provide advertisement, as well as volunteers, to help in the fight against homelessness in Arkansas. Family Promise is a local organization that works daily to extinguish homelessness. Second Baptist Church, in downtown Little Rock, hosted this event to help raise funds for Family Promise. We will be promoting Open Door Outreach Network on KARK's channel 4 "News At Noon" with Mallory Hardin. It will air Monday, July 1st, at 12:30pm..

Arkansas Food Bank
4301 W 65th St., Little Rock
Polly Deems, Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator for Arkansas Food Bank (LR location), was a delight as she gave us the amazing facts about AFB (LR location). Here are just a few: In 2012, they distributed 16.3 MILLION pounds of food; they cover the Central AR counties & 33 counties in South Central AR; they serve 23,000 people a week - that's 165,000 people a year!; they've commited to distributing 26.6 MILLION pounds of food by 2016; & they are a member of the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance! We will be going back to volunteer: Aug 24th & Sept 21st. To volunteer at these events, click on the "LR Volunteers/Open Door Outreach" button on our "Opportunities" page. Watershed 2013 "Christmas In July"

Joining with Watershed to give back to our community through this distribution event to the low-income families of Central Arkansas was definitely a privelege! So many of our supporters (and supporters of Watershed) gave a lot of love & compassion in giving their time, energy & donations for this event, which is what made "Christmas In July" such a Huge success. We really would like to express our gratitude to all of those involved - THANK YOU!!! Hopefully, we will have the honor of helping Watershed again, next year. Open Door Outreach is sponsoring this marvelous event! ALL proceeds will benefit Family Promise of Pulaski County. Family Promise works tirelessly to come to the aid of homeless children and their parents so that they may become self-sufficient! So, this event will not only be a barrel of fun, but will help eliminate homelessness in Central Arkansas (Pulaski County).
